Preserved intercratonic lithosphere reveals Proterozoic assembly of Australia

چکیده

Abstract The Proterozoic assembly of Australia, the understanding which is critical for reconstructing supercontinents, involved amalgamation West Australian (WAC), North (NAC), and South cratons (SAC). However, basement between these Archean to early lithospheric blocks mostly buried beneath younger basins; hence, its composition age timing remain uncertain. In situ zircon U-Pb-O-Hf analyses igneous rocks from drillholes that intersected northwestern Canning Basin reveal presence a substantial domain juvenile lithosphere, Percival Lakes province, WAC NAC. Although isotopically distinct neighboring NAC, province strikingly similar other tectonic elements WAC, SAC. Combining isotope seismic data, we interpret as part an ~1700 × 400 km lacks evidence provenance but consists mainly reworked remnants Mesoproterozoic oceanic crust survived WAC-NAC-SAC convergence. apparent absence lithosphere implies they never directly collided or complete collision was prevented by impingement three-dimensional promontories in converging blocks. Instead, SAC consist extracted Earth's mantle Proterozoic. Our results imply WAC-NAC convergence than Columbia at ca. 1.8 Ga Australia formed during earliest phases Rodinia 1.3 Ga.

Shear zones in the Proterozoic lithosphere of the Arabian Shield and the nature of the Hales discontinuity

Seismic velocity discontinuities are commonly found within the upper 100 km of the mantle lithosphere, with great variability in their depth, lateral extent, and the polarity of velocity jump. Among the more commonly observed is the ‘80 km’ or Hales discontinuity, identified in a variety of tectonic environments, and sometimes associated with seismic anisotropy. Teleseismic receiver functions f...

Towards Automatic Assembly of Privacy-Preserved Intrusion Signatures

Intrusion signatures are used to detect and/or prevent fast-spreading worms or exploits, and usually, constructing these signatures is an automatic process without human intervention for the sake of speed. In principle, the automatic signature construction process can produce not only true-positive intrusion signatures but also false-positive ones, the latter of which poses a grave problem beca...

Teleseismic imaging of the Slave craton and implications for the assembly of cratonic lithosphere

In this dissertation, I investigate the assembly and evolution of the Archean cratonic lithosphere by using two complementary seismological methods to image the lithospheric structure of the Slave craton in Canada. First, I perform surface wave tomographic inversions to constrain the depth dependence of Rayleigh wave phase velocity, shear wave velocity, and azimuthal anisotropy of the Slave cra...
